IT strategy & roadmaps
Where the technology should go over the next one to three years, sequenced against budget, hiring and the commercial plan.
- Current-state assessment
- Costed option appraisal
- Board-ready roadmap
Pragmatica Tech is an independent information technology consultancy in Plymouth. We are hired to look carefully at systems, spending and delivery plans — and to write down what we actually found, what it will cost, and what we would do next.
What we do
Companies House records us under SIC 62020 — information technology consultancy activities. In practice that means six kinds of work, and every one of them begins with reading the estate as it is rather than as the last presentation described it.
01
Where the technology should go over the next one to three years, sequenced against budget, hiring and the commercial plan.
02
How the systems fit together, where the data actually flows, and which joins are quietly holding the business together.
03
Whether to move, what to move first, and what it will genuinely cost to run once the migration project has finished.
04
Getting one version of the numbers, then removing the manual steps that stand between a question and its answer.
05
Independent review of a build, a supplier shortlist or a project that has stopped moving — with a written position, not a hunch.
06
A plain-English view of exposure, backup reality and recovery time — and the order in which to close the gaps.
How we work
Most technology advice fails not because the idea was wrong but because it arrived without a costing, without a sequence, and without anyone owning the next step. Our method exists to remove those three failure modes.
STEP 01
We talk to the people who use the systems daily and the people who pay for them. We ask for read access, licence invoices and the last two project post-mortems.
STEP 02
Architecture, cost, risk and delivery capability are each measured against the outcome you have described — not against a generic maturity model.
STEP 03
Normally three: do nothing, do the pragmatic thing, do the thorough thing. Each carries a cost range, a duration, a risk note and what it forecloses.
STEP 04
One clearly argued position, a sequenced roadmap, and a walkthrough with the people who have to deliver it. Implementation support is optional and separately scoped.
Ways to work with us
Chosen by how much certainty you need and how much of the work you intend to run yourselves. All three are scoped and priced in writing first.
FORMAT 01
Four weeks, one written report, one question answered properly — “should we migrate”, “is this build recoverable”, “where is the money going”.
FORMAT 02
A named consultant on call for a set number of days each month — for organisations with no CTO who still face CTO-shaped decisions.
FORMAT 03
Independent assurance alongside an internal team or an external supplier, from procurement through to go-live.
The pragmatic answer is rarely the most impressive one. It is the one you can afford, staff and finish — and it is the only kind worth putting in writing.
What we commit to

Who we help
Our work suits organisations between roughly ten and three hundred people: large enough that technology decisions carry real cost, small enough that no one is employed full-time to make them.
We work with clients across the United Kingdom. Being based in Plymouth, we are within straightforward reach of Devon, Cornwall and the wider South West for on-site discovery, and work remotely everywhere else.
Practices whose systems grew case by case and now need one architecture, clean client data and a defensible security position.
Founder-led companies making architecture, hiring and build-versus-buy decisions that will be expensive to unwind later.
Organisations that must justify every pound of technology spend to trustees, funders or a members' council.
Businesses running older line-of-business software that still works, and needing an honest view of what replacing it involves.
Directors who need an independent second opinion on a proposal, a supplier or a budget before they sign it.

Questions
A 45-minute call, free and without obligation. You describe the decision or the problem; we ask what we would need to see in order to answer it. If there is a piece of work, you receive a written scope with a fixed fee within three working days. If there is not — or if you need a different kind of firm — we will say so on the call.
Advice is the core of the practice: assessments, architecture reviews, roadmaps and assurance. We also provide hands-on implementation support — configuration, migration oversight, supplier management — but it is always scoped and priced separately from the assessment that recommended it, so the recommendation is never influenced by the size of the implementation that might follow.
No. We hold no reseller agreements, partner tiers or commission arrangements, and we accept no referral fees. Where a recommendation names a product, the report also states the alternatives considered and why they were set aside.
Assessments and reviews are fixed-fee against a written scope, so the cost of finding out is known before you commit. Retainers are priced on an agreed number of days per month. Implementation support is quoted per phase. Any change to scope is agreed in writing before the work is done — there are no surprise invoices.
Regularly, and it is often the healthiest arrangement. Your managed service provider runs the estate; we provide the independent view on strategy, architecture and spend. We are explicit with incumbents that we are not bidding for their contract.
Yes — we work with clients throughout the United Kingdom, remotely as standard. On-site discovery days are straightforward across Devon, Cornwall and the South West from our Plymouth base, and are arranged by agreement elsewhere.
Under a mutual non-disclosure agreement, signed before discovery begins if you would like one. We ask for the least access needed to answer the question — read-only wherever possible — and return or destroy working material at the end of the engagement on request. See our privacy notice for how personal data is handled under UK GDPR.
Next step
One email is enough to start. Describe the situation, what has already been tried and when you need an answer — we will reply within one working day with either a scoping call or an honest note that this is not our work.
